What Will Summer Travel in 2021 Look Like?

As we enter June, we look forward to the summer. But what will summer travel in 2021 look like? It is looking optimistic. As a matter of fact, many experts expect this summer will be one of the busiest US domestic summer travel seasons on record. This is due in large part to revenge travel and vaxications with the increased number of people being vaccinated so far.

According to a recent Harris poll, 77% of Americans plan to take a trip this summer. That is compared to only 29% in 2020, due to COVID concerns. The study was ordered by Let’s Go There, a coalition of over 75 travel related companies including Walt Disney World, Delta Airlines, Marriott International, Enterprise Car Rental, American Express and a host of other airlines, hotels, car rentals, local tourist bureaus, credit card companies and others. The goal of the coalition is to keep people thinking about traveling and to travel when they feel comfortable to do so.

The report also noted of those who will be traveling, most have already booked their travel, or at least have planned out the trip. Travelers are looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends and also getting some much-needed rest and relaxation. In addition, the flexibility of remote work and school continues to add to the optimism.

So, what do you need to know if you decide to travel this summer?

Mask Wearing Requirements

While some states have relaxed the mask wearing requirements, the airports have not. If you will be flying to your destination, remember to wear your mask while in the airport and on the airplane. Similar mask requirements may be in effect for other activities during your vacation, so make sure you check before you go.

More Benefits with Vaccinations

Also, if you have been vaccinated, it is recommended that you carry a copy of your vaccination card. Some areas may require proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test. Keep in mind, you may even be able to score some discounts and freebies from some of your favorite brands with that vaccination card.

Changing Travel Guidelines

Domestic travel is in high demand as international travel may have restrictions and limited options for Americans to travel. Travel guidelines can continue to change. Keep an eye out to make sure you know the most recent restrictions for the area you will be visiting. Beaches, mountains and theme parks will be popular destinations this summer.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

Airplanes are moving to full capacity and driving will still be an option chosen by many. Don’t forget about the trains. They have found new popularity. A fan favorite is the Amtrak Auto Train connecting the Northeast with central Florida. It’s a great option especially when the availability of car rentals is becoming scare due to increased demand and the cost to rent one is also increasing. With the Auto Train, you get to load your car right on the train and pick it up once you get to Florida. It eases the driving burden of the road trip.

Social Distancing with Vacation Rental Homes

Vacation rental homes are still preferred places for vacationers to stay. They give guests the natural social distancing they will still desire. Vacation rentals make it easier to follow social distancing guidelines. Staying in a private home while on vacation limits your exposure to others. Once you arrive at the vacation rental home, you can control your surroundings making your vacation less stressful. The vacation home is a private place just for you and your family or friends. It’s a great way for you all to congregate and enjoy your time together. And when you had enough of being together, there is space for you to retreat to your own area within the home.
