Ski Lift Summer Drift, a Stay For Vacay vacation rental home in the Poconos, had a facelift and is new and improved. Once we bought the townhome, we knew it needed to be remodeled. Our plans had to be delayed since we purchased it during the pandemic. We officially completed the renovations just in time for ski season. This 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath renovated mountain vacation home now has a modern, rustic design.
You might notice new paint colors or air conditioning in the living room and all the bedrooms, or possibly some new artwork. So many upgrades including new furniture, tile in the bathrooms, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and new lighting throughout. We chose some areas of the renovation to highlight.
Space for Everyone
Gather around the brand-new custom-made solid wood dining table. Just in time for Thanksgiving. It seats 8-10 people. Simply pull up the matching bench for your larger gatherings. It all sparkles underneath the new teardrop crystal chandelier. Or you can dim the chandelier for an intimate setting during a romantic getaway with that special someone. And the dining table is a great place to gather to play some board games. Scrabble anyone?
I Like That Color!
The kitchen cabinets are now bright, colorful, and fully stocked. The teal color on the cabinets is repeated in the décor in various places throughout the house. There’s even a new Keurig coffee maker that matches. (But remember to bring your own K-cup pods. The construction crew didn’t include those in the remodel.) Most of the small appliances in the kitchen are also new. But look out next year for more surprises and upgrades in the kitchen.
Cozy Fireplace
The fireplace got a fresh, new color and feel. Hint! Hint! It matches the kitchen cabinets. The fireplace was also converted to an electric fireplace, making it safer for families and easier to use. No more firewood! Just click the remote and see realistic flames with the simulated crackling wood sound. No fuss. No mess. Cozy up next to the upgraded fireplace on the brand-new convertible chair/daybed. The perfect place to curl up and read a book or sip hot chocolate. The chair/daybed also turns into another sleeping option, if needed.
I Got Next
All three bathrooms were remodeled. The greatest transformation was in the largest bathroom. It now has a double vanity! Ahh, the convenience of two sinks. More people can get ready at the same time, allowing you to hit the slopes faster or spend more time at the casinos or outlet shopping. The second full bathroom is the loft, ensuite bathroom. It is refreshed and intimate. And the half bath brings the outdoors, inside with the wall treatment reminiscent of the forest.
Family Friendly or Romantic Getaway
The three bedrooms are relaxing and comfy. The bedroom with the greatest upgrade is on the lower level. A brand-new queen-size bed, with the very popular Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam mattress, was added into one of the bedrooms. With the addition of this bed, that bedroom now has three beds including the two existing twin size beds. We call it the family bedroom.
If you are traveling with young children that want to sleep in the same room as you, now you have that option. Or if two families are traveling together, you can put all of the kids in the family bedroom and the adults can sleep in the other two bedrooms. There is an extra TV in the bedroom, just for video games. You just need to bring your game console and games. (The construction crew didn’t provide those either. Imagine that!) Further, if three couples are traveling together, now each couple gets either a king or queen size bedroom to choose from. Did I say options?!
Work Remote
For those who want to work remotely, the dedicated workstation is available. Just bring your laptop and plug in. (You guessed it! The construction crew didn’t leave an extra laptop either.) There are plenty of outlets to plug into near the desk. For an extra option, the desk lamp has a USB port so you can connect your laptop into it as well.
Renovations Are Not Easy
As with most renovations, there were some challenges during this remodel. Supply chain issues, price increases, labor shortages, delays and DIY fails to name a few. For instance, in the family bedroom we thought it would be nice to have a mountain theme mural…and do it as a DIY project. Halfway through the project, let’s just say, the mural wasn’t looking like the DIY tutorial. And definitely not Instagram worthy! So, we scraped that idea and switched to the grasscloth wallpaper. That was the best choice for sure.
We learned some lessons along the way and picked up some new skills. And we appreciate the construction crew for giving us what they set out to do, a beautiful renovated mountain vacation home. Through it all, we are happy with the results and ready to take on the renovation of our next vacation rental home…but not until next year. Stay tuned!
