Holiday travel is here! And this holiday season is off to a good start. If you are traveling for the holidays this year, you are not alone. Whether traveling to see family, taking family to explore a new destination, or joining friends for the annual Friendsgiving, holiday travel is a great time to enjoy fun things to do wherever you will be staying for the holidays.
People are getting back to their traditions and planning to travel at pre-pandemic levels. Over the 10-day Thanksgiving travel period, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen at US airports an estimated 20 million travelers, or 2 million people per day. On Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, TSA officers already screened 2.2 million people at airport checkpoints nationwide.
Even with gas prices on the rise, people are also hitting the roads in their cars again this holiday season. AAA predicts most of the Thanksgiving travel will be by car, with 48.3 million people expected to drive this year.
Once you get to your destination, chances are there’s lots of fun things to do and great holiday traditions to enjoy.
Fun Things To Do
To kick off the fun things to do during your holiday travel, don’t forget to download the free Stay For Vacay Activity Book. It’s a good way to entertain the children during the trip. This 12-page activity booklet is a coloring book with puzzles, a couple of mazes and games including Word Search, Connect the Dots, Sudoku, and Tic Tac Toe. It will keep them busy for a little while before you hear, “Are we there yet?!”
Holidays Are For Traditions
Holidays and traditions go hand in hand. When you travel, you get the benefit of experiencing local area traditions. Some traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. You can see all the fun things people from the area like to do. Your family may even choose to adopt some of these local traditions for your future holiday celebrations. Often times when families stay at a vacation rental, they will return to the same rental home to relive the joy year after year.
Time For New Experiences
The holiday travel season brings the opportunity for new experiences. What better time to learn something new, then with the ones you love while in a new area. For instance, if you’re from a warm climate and you are visiting family near a ski resort, now is your chance to try skiing or snowboarding for the first time. But don’t forget to pick up that snowsuit before you get there.
