Cinco de Mayo or the fifth of May is a time of celebration. Whether you choose to enjoy the day at home or venture out to a local restaurant or festival, here are some ideas on fun ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

A great way to start the celebration includes taking some time to understand what this holiday is all about. It is more than an annual celebration on May 5th each year. Doing a quick Google search will uncover that Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the Mexican Army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A fun way to learn more about the history might be to play a trivia game. Here’s a hint for you to win the game.  Cinco de Mayo is often confused as Mexican Independence Day, which it is not. Mexican Independence Day is actually September 16!

Whether you cook it yourself or support a local Mexican restaurant, you want to make sure you have authentic food.

Some would say you can’t have a Cinco de Mayo celebration without the margaritas! This is the most popular tequila drink, which is served over ice or with crushed ice. Depending on your preferences, there are many recipes and options to choose from including classic, spicy or frozen margaritas.

Turn on your favorite music streaming service and enjoy some tunes from the top Mariachi bands. Find your maracas and join in. Take the time to learn some new dance moves while you’re at it. There might even be a festival or parade in your area.
